Around The Field House

  • The Nuggets downed by AI's former teamate. Korver and the Jazz put it on in overtime at the top of the rockies beating Denver with tuffness 118-115. Even though the jazz blew a 15 point lead from the half to let denver take it to overtime, This Jazz team beat a Denver team at the top of there game. "You win games like this when you are playing well," Korver said. "Our confidence was high going into the game." If that's true I think it's fair to call Kyle Korver Confidence Korver. Since Korver has come to the team the Jazz have won 16 of 18! The Jazz look to take there win streak to eleven tonight against the Kings.
  • Signing day: The young and the restless. young men across the country place there names and a dotted line and cause grown men to cry tears of joy or tears of dispare! As a avid fan of BYU I was restless most of the day looking forward to the possability of signing someone that could possibly make or break my beloved Cougars. I'm sure my feelings were echoed across the country. It short BYU lost the big recruit, Uona Kavienga, but got some great gets such as O'neill Chambers, Austin Holt, Shiloah Te'o, and top kicker Justin Sorensen. It will be another great season in '08.

Around The Field House

  • The Utah Jazz are at it again.Routing the cooling Hornets 110- 88. After looking young and unmotivated for most of Dec., the squad has since looked like a team on a mission in 2008 (still riding a nine game win streak), a mission to regain the respect of the west and get back to the conf. finals. Whats been the difference? Korver? Team leaders? Defense? I would speculate that it is a combo of all of the above. But one thing is for sure, There red hot right now!
  • Goliath has fallen! Long live the Eli! This was the feeling across the united states as Eli Manning and the NY Giants out everythinged the Evils of New England beating them 17-14. What is the fastest way to go from average QB to the NATION'S home town hero? Answer: Beat the devil and all his minions at their own game!
  • QB factory gets new materials- Two years from now get ready to hear the name Christian Stewart. He is going on an LDS mission right out of high school but has told Bronco Mendenhall that he will do what it takes (walk on) to play for BYU. As a Maxprep top 5 passer in the country I don't think the powers that be at the Y will allow this young man to pay for school. Just a hunch. Good choice Christian.

Korver : the salt the Jazz needed

Other than the playoffs and opening night, few events are as exciting as getting new blood on a competitive NBA team. This happens in two ways, a trade, or the draft. Kyle Korver is a trade that made the Jazz look like a team that wants to compete again.

Korver is a super addition to the Utah Jazz. With sharp shooter skills from the outside, he frees up the inside and keeps the defense honest in spreading the floor. This is meant to open up the middle, which it has, but more importantly and maybe a little less expected is the release it has given to Okur’s shooting. Okur has gone off for two games over twenty and has a mess of confidence that is pouring out onto the court since Korver’s arrival. Jazz fans are happy to have Korver, but maybe even more happy to have Memo back. Thanks Korver.

“From kickoff to the final celebration there was nothing else.”

With 42 seconds left on the season for a Persevering Kansas team and a V. Tech squad that has been pushed by a desire to trump a cowards neglect for life, Mark Mangino was letting his guys know that he would have a heart attack if they doused him with the ice filled “heart stopper” called the gatorade shower... And while the pre party, pre orange eating, and pre heart attack for Mangino was happening on one side of the field, the hokies had there heads held low, looking for a place to hide and bathe in the excuses and disappointment of a lose. But in the end both teams will get back on the buses, take the trip home, live there lives, and laugh about something that has nothing to do with this game, get angry at a bad waiter, or lose someone close. In those moments and in the infinite others that will come up in there lives they will rarely think of the Orange Bowl of 2008. Either will you and I. It doesn't seem significant as it appears on the field. Especially compared to what the players have survived and witnessed earlier this year and will likely have to deal with as life goes on. It’s nothing right? It’s just a game. well... No, It’s not. For the 4 hours from kick off to the final celebration, this is the most important thing in the world for those breathing the same air, smelling the same smells, and drinking the Cokes in the stands or sweating together on the field. Thats what makes it great. For those four hours if you were in the stands or on the field, chances are nothing else really mattered. Sure someone might of had a sister in labor, just broken up with a girlfriend, or didn’t find pants that fit right (That will ruin everything! Trust me). But for everyone else, it was all forgotten for about 4 hours. Nothing mattered but a great defense being beaten by a surgeon like QB that had to use a club instead of a scalpel at times to get the job done. What mattered in those four hours was the shear thrill of the pick six, the reverse kickoff return for six and the agony of waiting to see what the flag was. That’s what mattered. That’s what makes it great. That’s why they play and why we watch. Because for those four hours it doesn't matter that our boss hates us or our neighbor dumps grass clippings in our yard. It doesn't matter that your trying to diet and feel like eating the chair your sitting on. It doesn't matter that we can’t live on this huge planet together and not kill each other. We don’t ever forget, we can’t. But what is sold for a $100 is a seat and an opportunity to let go of all of that for four hours. Tomorrow we will get up go to work and talk about the game, but we’ll be at work. It IS just a game. Let it be a game. Let it be a game and you’ll get four hours.

BC$: Big Conspiracy system

"This is your last chance. After this there is no turning back. You take the BLUE pill-the story ends, you wake up in your bed and believe whatever you want to believe. You take the RED pill- you stay in wonderland and I show you how deep the rabbit-hole goes." Morpheus,The Matrix ...Welcome to the rabbit-hole. The ongoing exposure of the BC$. Are you unplugged? Good. I will pull the string that will unravel the tightly weaved web that is the BC$. Since it's creation in 1998 the BC$ has had one job, to create a fancy shadow puppet while it chokes the life out of college football. But 'The Matrix" of the BC$ is being exposed. Brought out into the light with no shadows to cast. Everybody is beginning to see and feel the choke. Those who have taken the RED pill: Kansas State. In '98 K-State was ranked 3rd yet did not receive a pick a BC$ bowl. Instead Ohio St.(4th) & Florida(8th) went BC$ bowling. Reason? Though K-State has an incredible fan base, it dosen't bring the silver lining of a Florida or Ohio St. that will drive a larger national audience which will bring a larger profit to the BC$ sponsors. Again in '99 K-state(6th) was passed over for Michigan(8th). But come on, they almost beat App. St. THIS year. Tulane. Undefeated in '99 yet stiffed due to something they have no control over, Their conference. That's it. What a terrible excuse for not inviting a team that did everything it was supposed to do...WIN. Oregon. After Nebraska lost to Colorado in 2001 It caused some serious ripples when #2 Oregon was snuffed out of a BC$ Championship game to a 4th ranked Nebraska. OUTCOME: Nebraska was routed by Miami(FL) 37-14 in the title game as the #2 Ducks slapped Colorado in a non-Championship BC$ bowl. Come on guys, #1 plays #2, and #3 plays #4. 2003: no one went undefeated. one loss to Oklahoma, LSU, USC, Miami(OH), TCU, & Bosie st. first, slap the non-BC$ conferences. No one gets the invite. 2 loss teams from the "Big Money" conferences get the nod instead. Again because of the conference. Something they can't control. second, The mismatch of who is #1,#2 etc. Oklahoma was #1 in one poll & #3 in another. LSU was #2, beat Oklahoma in the championship and became champs. USC beat Michigan. USC was a #1 in another poll prior to the bowls. Confused yet? Throw this in: #2 LSU beats #1(in one poll) Oklahoma, while #1 USC in another poll beats Michigan in their bowl. Who are the champs? To show disgust for the BC$ 3 coaches voted USC as #1. This was an example of the BC$ being exposed. '04 Auburn & Utah: Both undefeated. Both won their Bowl games soundly. Neither played for the championship. USC beat Oklahoma in the Championship. In the end 3 undefeated. 3 different bowl winners. 2006, Boise St.: The most exciting game ever! for a lot of reasons. I love Boise St.! What they did will go down as the firecracker that started the BC$ mountain on fire. It's burning. Soon it will be fully engulfed. Buckets of water(a plus one game) won't put it out. The mountain will burn. It may take a while, but it will consume itself. All the greed, the false loyalty, the LIES, Everything! Till the greatest sport at the greatest level is free. Free to find the best. Free to include all the conferences. Free to have a PLAYOFF. "Throughout human history, we have been dependent on machines to survive. Fate, it seems, is not without a sense of Irony."
